Getting old is like lugging a pot of gold…
Having always been an active person; walking and biking from sunrise to sunset, I don’t recall having much pain except for that episode of lower back pain when my old kitchen had a very low sink, or due to the occasional fall like the time I rolled down the stairs during pregnancy! Being active is the key to staying mobile until old age; so we’re told!
Eventually, in my early forties, I started to feel my knees; they didn’t hurt, but I could feel them! “Hmmm, something fishy is going on”, I used to think!
A few more falls, and suddenly menopause strikes like lightning! As if the extra pounds weren’t enough of a nuisance, eventually there was a sore, swollen knee, which luckily resolved itself after a thought out change of foot wear; those fake crocks seem to have contributed to that joint inflammation!
At around the same time came those nauseating hot flashes that often made me feel faint; they’ve been around for almost ten years, but fortunately don’t seem to make me as uncomfortable these days – I think I’ve grown accustomed to being ignited every hour or so!
Before I knew it the fifties had fallen upon me, and along with being over half a century old came the bloating – where’s the waistline? My once pear shaped body is now an apple! It seems that some women never go through these predicaments – is there a God?
As if all these problems weren’t enough; I won’t even go into the dryness & X factors, there is now bilateral leg pain accompanied by heaviness! Luckily some days are better than others, but I now stay behind others when walking; ten years ago I was always at the front!
On my bad days I believe that I carry a pot of gold on each leg…
